Description and Responsibilities

General practitioners provide a range of medical services, including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, to people of all ages to prevent or treat illnesses. To this end, general practitioners examine patients, have tests or analyses performed where needed, make a diagnosis, prescribe drugs or treatments, and provide advice to maintain, improve or restore health.

Education and Training Requirements

In order to practice in Québec, a general practitioner must hold a medical degree. The degree is offered in 4 university faculties in Québec:
