Description and Responsibilities
Spiritual care providers offer patients, their family and loved ones spiritual and religious guidance and support. They plan, conduct and evaluate spiritual and religious activities. They visit patients and identify spiritual and religious needs. They offer theological, spiritual and ethical guidance, are a part of interdisciplinary teams and give moral support to the families of patients.
Spiritual care providers sit on committees and take on the role of caretakers outside regular working hours in order to respond to emergencies when their presence is required.
Education and Training Requirements
Various training programs in theology, pastoral and religious sciences are offered in religiously affiliated colleges and universities:
- Collège universitaire dominicain

- Faculté de théologie et de sciences des religions de l'Université de Montréal (in French only)
